Intro to Basic Computer Applications
July 6 - August 24, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 66 hours, 22 Sessions, Cost: $600

Location: St. Albans- St. Paul’s Church
A good basic computer class. All instruction is hands on. Students will have 30 minutes of keyboarding practice/class.

Computer Essentials, Internet and Email (6 sessions) Basic computer skills, Windows-menus, taskbars, commands, Internet navigation, create, send & receive email, online job search.

Intro to Microsoft Word (8 sessions-Begins July 20) Basic skills for Word Processing using Microsoft Word.  Learn to create, edit and save documents, format, copy, cut and paste text, page set up and print documents, tables, columns and graphics.

Intro to Microsoft Excel (8 sessions-Begins August 5) Basic sills for spreadsheets and datasheets. Learn to create spreadsheet, labels, numbers, formulas, functions, cells, sort, filter and store data.

Computer Skills: Transitioning to Microsoft Office 2007

Microsoft Word (6 sessions) Learn skills for word processing in Microsoft Word 2007, create, edit, format, print and save documents, special features, tools, graphics, etc. Some previous word processing experience is essential.

A hands on introduction to the popular Quick Books bookkeeping / accounting software program for personal and small business finances. Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) Non-Degree Grants are available for tuition and texts for income-eligible adults for school/training programs.  A VSAC Outreach counselor will distribute grant applications and assist with their completion. WELDING

Welding Technology I    Register Here       
Begins July 7, 8 weeks, 24 Hours
Wednesdays, 6:00-9:00pm, Cost $400
Instructor:  David Albright
This is a basic welding skills course which introduces students to different types of welding:  AC/DC stick, Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG); and Oxygen-Acetylene.  Students learn to weld and demonstrate proficiency in horizontal and vertical applications.  Oxy-acetylene torches and plasma cutting will also be covered.


RESIDENTAIL ELECTRICITY

Begins July 5, Mondays, 5:00 - 8:00 pm, 24 hours plus field work, Cost $300 + text, Instructor:  Larry Fadden
This course is an excellent first step into the world of electricity for the homeowner.  Learn the basics of home wiring, putting in switches, outlets, lights, etc.  Theory and hands on experience are part of the class.  This summer, the class field work will be to wire the Habitat for Humanity house being built on Nason Street in St. Albans.


CLEAN SWEEP

Clean Sweep Custodial / Light Maintenance Training Register Here
Begins July 6, Monday-Thursday, 12:00 - 2:00 pm + unpaid Worksite Placement (10 - 40 hours / week)
Cost $600 Instructor: Tim Westover
Clean Sweep is a 6 week custodial / light maintenance training program with 2 hours of class/ day and unpaid worksite placement. Topics: Communication, blood borne pathogens, safety, slip & fall procedures, professional & industrial cleaning, equipment, techniques, restrooms, floor care, etc.  Students apply their knowledge and skills at local schools and business in an unpaid community worksite placement.

This is a program for young Vermonters graduating high school and interested in learning employment skills through an unpaid internship with a local employer.  These internships can lead to high skill/ high wage employment and provide valuable experience in the workforce.


LICENSED NURSE ASSISTANT TRAINING

Licensed Nurse Assistant (LNA) Training Register Here
LNA training includes 64+ hours classroom/ lab, 32 hours clinical practice and preparation for State LNA exam. Clinicals are at Northwestern Medical Center and Franklin County long-term care facilities.  The program focuses on essentials for Nursing Assistants and safe and effective practices when giving care.  Program is approved by the VT State Board of Nursing. Northwest Technical Center is an LNA testing site. Testing is scheduled after course completion. Applicants must be   able to pass a background check.
Please note: The length of the class depends on the number of hours per week the class meets.             
Summer LNA:  Select 1 Session Cost $850 + $109 LNA Testing + $20 VT State Board Fee

CPR CERTIFICATION

CPR Certification / Recertification Register Here
July 19, Monday, 5:00 - 9:00 pm
Cost $50, Instructor:  Rick Piaseczny
This course covers risk factors, signs / signals for action, one rescuer CPR, foreign body airway obstruction, AED (automatic external defibrillator) use / operation including demonstration and practice of skills. Individuals may take course for CPR Certification or recertification.

August 2, Monday, 5:00-9:00 pm, 4 hours, Cost $30 Includes course materials and certification, Instructor:  Richard Piaseczny
This course is for those who come in contact with small children - parents, educators, daycare personnel, etc.  This 4-hour course includes health and safety, one rescuer CPR, foreign body airway management for child and infant. Individuals may take this course for certification or recertification.

First Aid Register Here

Cost $25 Includes course materials and certification, Instructor:  Richard Piaseczny
American Safety and Health Institute Community First Aid course covers all aspects of adult and pediatric first aid.  It includes important aspects of injury prevention, recognition, and treatment.  A skill test is given in class with cards issued to all those passing.
